Y’all Means All - Why Is It So Hard?

The practice of radical inclusion of people who are not like us can change not only public attitudes and values, but also be personally transformative. Knowing about traditional tools of exclusion and creating ‘otherness’ can help us shift the scales toward a more diverse and interesting world. Additionally, knowing how and creating a welcoming place can reverse historical negative practices, both personally and as a collective.

Marcia Tewell bio: Marcia Tewell is the former Executive Director of the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council, an agency devoted to system change and the inclusion of folks who are different in to the life of the ordinary. Marcia has lived her life in the disability community from special education classrooms and the short bus, to living in a L’Arche Community group home, to practicing life-sharing situations with individuals vulnerable to exclusion. Additionally, she has studied public policy at Syracuse University and Gothenberg University (Sweden) as well as observed social services in Kenya and many states in the U.S.

During service, children will be invited to join us for our Faith Exploration program. Our program (K-5th) engages the spirit, mind, and body through games, movement, and hands-on activities. Kids start in the sanctuary with the whole congregation before heading to their classes.

For our youngest friends (under age 5), Nursery care is available for the duration of the service.
