Director of Faith Exploration

Columbine Unitarian Universalist Church (CUUC) in Littleton, CO is seeking to fill a quarter time position in the spring or early summer 2026. Columbine is a growing church (90+ members) located in the southwest
suburbs of Denver. We currently have about 30 children and youth in ourprogram. Our multicultural community includes neurodiverse and LGBTQIA+ people who seek a safe and supportive environment.
Description: Guided by our Unitarian Universalist covenants and traditions, the Director of Faith Exploration (DFE) directs and leads the Faith Exploration program. This includes planning and administering Sunday morning religious education classes and biweekly Sunday evening youth groups that nurture UU
identity and the spiritual and religious growth of our children and youth, a well as overseeing Adult Faith Exploration programming.
CUUC is looking for an experienced candidate who is energetic, creative, takes initiative, plans ahead, and can work independently as well as in a team. We would like to find someone who not only resonates with and upholds our UU Shared Values, but who also is flexible and adaptable enough to work with all
ages and abilities of people.
CUUC is especially looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills, both with parents and with other members of CUUC. This position offers opportunities for personal and professional development and training and creative expansion of our program.
Hours: 10 hours/week; Sunday mornings except one off per month. Biweekly staff meetings and occasional other scheduled work times with flexibility the rest of the time. Potential to expand beyond 10 hours/week as Faith Development program and membership increases.

Job Responsibilities:

Faith Exploration Program for Children, Youth, and Adults

Support and teach the mission, vision, and values of CUUC
-
Nurtures children, youth, and families by building and maintaining caring and responsible relationships with the families in our program.

Administers programs which teach and reflect our UU Shared Values, history, and worship, including, but not limited to: the rights of marginalized persons, including those who identify as LGBTQ+, persons of color, persons with disabilities; respecting the inherent worth of all people; and appreciating a variety of spiritual, religious, and humanist beliefs.

Recruits, trains and supports volunteer teachers and childcare staff.

Chooses appropriate materials for classroom and worship, including Time for All Ages story and works with the Media Arts Team to ensure it is in the correct format for multi-platform worship.

Works with the Safety Team to ensure a safe environment.

Programmatic Support

Collaborates with the Music Director, Minister, and Worship Team for multi-generational worship, activities and services.

Oversees scheduling childcare for CUUC Sunday services, small groups and events.

Serves as point of contact and responsible adult for regional youth activities and service and learning in the wider community.

Serves as active liaison between CUUC youth and The Mountain Top BIPOC Youth Ministry and other community partners.

Management and Expectations
-
Monitors the budget and ensures that expenses, files, and records are kept current in cooperation with the Administrator.

Maintains active membership in and abides by the professional covenant of the professional organization for UU religious educators, LREDA (CUUC pays for LREDA membership).

Pursues continuing education and professional development, including representing CUUC at regional and national UU and LREDA events when possible.

Attends biweekly staff meetings.

Is available three Sunday mornings per month (four during months with five Sundays).

Awareness of, or willingness to learn about, the anti-oppression, anti-racism, and multiculturalism work within Unitarian Universalism and the wider community, and a willingness to grow and change practice due to that learning.

Ability to keep confidence, admit errors, and adhere to a transparent set of personal and professional values.

Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to conduct of programs for youth and children.

Ability to use modern technology effectively. This includes the ability to use Google, PowerPoint, and Zoom technologies.
Qualifications

Experience working with children and youth.

Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Experience
-
Experience in a UU religious education program.
-
Experience in the design and administration of religious education programming.

Full or partial completion of the Religious Education Credentialing Program administered by the UUA and LREDA (or equivalent).

Experience supervising volunteers and/or staff
-
Demonstrated experience working with and inspiring volunteers to increasing levels of leadership.
Compensation
10 hours per week, $10,920/year, plus two weeks PTO. Potential for more hours as needed.
