- Laying Stones on the Circles Medium-sized river rocks were selected for the 11 inner circles of the labyrinth. The outside circle was laid with the largest rocks (12-inch). The rocks were laid carefully on the previously drawn circles. Labyrinth scholars believe the circles in the Chartres design articulated an ancient cosmology, with the central circle representing the Earth and the circles surrounding it representing (in order): 2) the Moon, 3) Sun, 4) Mercury, 5) Venus, 6) Mars, 7) Jupiter, 8) Saturn, and 9) the fixed stars. In this cosmology, the three outer circles represent 10) World Soul, 11) Mind, and 12) the Supreme God. |
