CornUUcopia may be a slightly UU corny name for our annual fundraising dinner and auction, but what happens that night isn’t corny. It makes a huge difference in CUUC’s ability to provide the programs and ministry we want. If you haven’t joined in this event before, here’s a preview.

The evening starts about 5:30pm when the doors open and you get your bidder number. You then head to the Community Room for the silent auction since that’s where you can scope out the skills, food, unique items, and crafts donated by your friends at CUUC. There are also goods and services given by restaurants, stores, and merchants to tempt your bid.

Dinner starts about 6:00pm in the Sanctuary. During dinner you’ll have a chance to eat with friends and study the catalog for the items you’ll bid on in the Live Auction. Child care (please pre-register and pre-pay for your child) starts at 6:30pm. By 7:15pm you’ll be scurrying to check, and potentially make one last bid, on the silent auction items you’ve selected before the bidding ends. Then grab some dessert and head back to the sanctuary for the live auction.

The items in the live auction can create some lively bidding as some of us discover we’re a bit competitive (great entertainment for the rest of us!). After the last item is awarded the real entertainment starts. There’s a reason we hold the entertainment for the end of the evening. Simply, we need about 30 minutes to tally up all the bids so you can settle up your account as you leave. So please settle in and enjoy the show! There is one more detail you need to know. CUUC accepts MasterCard and Visa during the month of November just so you can put your winning bids on plastic if you want.

The key to any auction is the quantity and quality of the items donated. The items that raise the most for CUUC are the ones donated by US! We CUUCers give creative, unique, can’t find anything like it, events, services, and items that others really want to purchase. Donating is easy. Simply write the details of your donation on the form available at church and turn it into Michelle, Loraine or Sarah. We’ll be collecting the actual items during the week before the auction, but we start creating the catalog long before then. If you want to talk about what will be a great donation, please call Michelle Kingston or Sarah Manning. We’ll be listing donations received on the website and bulletin board to pique your imagination!

Wow! People at CUUC are generous with their time! A great crew is teaming to bring us the best auction ever. Ann and Gary Wederspahn have been getting donations from restaurants and stores. Michelle Kingston is collecting donations from us. Dan Gaiser is heading the group who will display and organize the silent auction items. Wes Howe is organizing the team taking all our bids for the live auction. Steve Busey will feed us. George Mandeville will keep us from being thirsty. Bee Adams, Ed Cable and Eric Gustafson will transform the sanctuary and Loraine Kreznar will create an amazing catalog and oversee all the behind the scenes stuff. Volunteering on the night of the auction will be Dave Fagan, Sue Dressel, Sue Zloth, Joan Bradt, Sally Popiel, Suzanne Fey-Gaiser, Becky and Sarah Suzuki, Lizzie Garrick, and June McMillen! This is the group that makes the magic of CornUUcopia happen for all of us. You can join this wonderful team, too. Just email sarahmanning@sprynet.com and she’ll find a spot where your talents are needed.
