Mondays
8:00 am |
Women’s
Hiking Group Please join us!
All women hikers are welcome! Come and bring friends.
We meet in our church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. each Monday. It is
a wonderful way to start the week. Lots of walking and talking on
beautiful trails. So far the group has hiked several of the Jeffco
Open Space Parks. To date, the hikes have been fairly easy to
moderate, and the conversation and laughter have been superb! Bring your hiking gear including a light lunch or snack. Some weeks,
we may have the option of stopping for lunch if you choose, so a bit
of cash will come in handy. We carpool to the trailheads and kick
in $1.00 each to the driver(s).
Some women have asked about bringing their dogs. Be aware there are
leash requirements in the parks. Also, some may not wish to travel
with our furry friends, so you may need to drive your own vehicle if
Fido comes along.
So, mark your calendars and grab your gear! Just show up any week
you can make it. Hope to see many of you on Monday! |

Book Club In May
Longitude
by Dava Sobel
From Publisher's Weekly:
“While sailors can readily gauge latitude by
the height of the sun or guiding stars above the horizon, the
measurement of longitude bedeviled navigators for centuries,
resulting in untold shipwrecks. Galileo, Isaac Newton and Edmund
Halley entreated the moon and stars for help, but their astronomical
methods failed. In 1714, England's Parliament offered #20,000
(equivalent to millions of dollars today) to anyone who could solve
the problem. Self-educated English clockmaker John Harrison
(1693-1776) found the answer by inventing a chronometer, a
friction-free timepiece, impervious to pitch and roll, temperature
and humidity, that would carry the true time from the home port to
any destination. But Britain's Board of Longitude, a panel of
scientists, naval officers and government officials, favored the
astronomers over humble "mechanics" like Harrison, who received only
a portion of the prize after decades of struggle. Yet his approach
ultimately triumphed, enabling Britannia to rule the waves. In an
enthralling gem of a book, former New York Times science
reporter Sobel spins an amazing tale of political intrigue, foul
play, scientific discovery and personal ambition.”
Please join us on Wednesday May 28 at 7:30pm
at the church to discuss Longitude. All are welcome! Please
contact Sue Zloth at zloths@q.com with any questions..
